Question about changing a Peugeot PX10 crankset & BB?

I have a classic 1971 Peugeot PX10 that I really like, but I want to change out the original Stronglight 170 mm crank for a 175 mm, and the 52 ring for a 53. I can't find anything that indicates that Stronglight ever made a 175 mm crank or a 53 tooth ring. Given the age and value of the bike, I'm not willing to spend $300+ for Stronglights newer carbon cranks. I want something that at least looks like it may have been original, and I don't want to spend much over $100. Is there anything out there for me?

I don't have a perfect solution for you but a couple suggestions. You can scour EBay for older parts that fit your needs. They do often have older cranks but hitting your specs might not be easy. another option would be to use a newer crank set with traditional styling. If you go back 10 years or a little less Campy and Shimano cranks had fairly traditional looks. These cranks are plentiful. again EBay is a good source for these. You'll find these cranks very reasonably priced as well.

Hold on to your old cranks and BB to restore to original again if you desire.

I have a 1970 Gitane Tour de France with those same cranks and I found parts at a place in Dublin (Columbus) Ohio called Bicycle Warehouse. The guy has been a bike mechanic for 40 years and bought out all the new old stock from shops as they closed over the years. If it was made he has it or knows where you can find it. He even had some new old stock bearing cones for my old french threaded Mavic wheels (in case yours are going). Your bike and mine are basically the same.

If you ever want to part with the PX10 find me.

I had the original Stronglight on my 531 DB Raleigh too. But here in the mountains the inner limit was 38 tooth, not good enough. And they have a very strange unique bolt hole circle and it is sooo hard to find rings.

    The Stronglight was made in

Europe and looks cool, but just is not so functional any more.

Personally maybe find an old Campy but that is pricey, so depending on where you are start looking at EBay, Craig's list for something up your alley.

Being a functional type, i went with an old upper end Sakae.

I have a 34" inseam and stayed with 170mm arms, mainly for ground clearance when rounding corners.

Unless the original ring is damaged, I've got to ask why? The higher gearing will be canceled out to a large extent by the longer crank arm.

Why not put the $100 on taking your partner out for a nice meal?

Whats incorrect with the 150k engine that it needs changing? something of the 150k automobile might have the wear and tear of a 150k automobile no longer basically the engine. IF it is been serviced suitable then it might desire to be in plenty greater advantageous subject than the single that has basically achieved 35K if it is been abused. stupid to alter it because of the fact the mileage is severe, if your no longer happy then seek for a greater modern automobile.
