The new Yankee Stadium & The YES Network?

Does anyone know what the new Yankee Stadium will not have a retractible roof, like originally planned. It's not like that can't afford it, plus it can be used in the off season for concerts and other income generating events.

Also, how come the YES network never shows games pre mid 1970's on Yankees Classics. I'm sure they must have some on film somewhere.

Update:

Prior to 9/11, NYC was going to pay a higher much % of the costs for both the New Yankee Stadium, and the New Shea Stadium. Yankee Stadium was going to have the old facade, like it still will have, but with a retractable roof. Shea Stadium was going to have a retractable field, so they could play soccer there.

Not sure about the roof but concerning the Yankees classics. I believe it has something to do with George Steinbrenner and the date he purchased the team. He has cleared all the broadcast of games since he has owned the team. I believe that is why we never see games earlier than the 1970's.

Some years ago MLB had a contract with several regional sports networks and hired Steve Garvey to host the show. He showed many classic games of which I taped a good number of them. I was able to tape the 1952 Yankee-Dodger world series. All on film and all in black and white with Red Barber doing the play-by-play. What a treasure!

    Hope this helps you.

Retractable roofs are horrible for baseball and the yankees never had that in the plan.

I dont know about the roof. But the pre-70's film was confiscated by Eric Mangini for review by league officials. Sorry about that.

Can't answer your questions, but I believe that baseball was made to be played in the sunshine!!!

This is New York, not an artificial city like Houston.
