I can't rip CD's anymore! Why?

It started when I tried to take a CD out of the drive and it wouldn't open. I put a pin in the hole and slid it open to get the CD out. I won't open or close at all. When I go into Windows Media Player and click on "rip" I get a message that says "A CD drive is needed in order to rip music from CDs." What can I do?

There is a possibility that the computer and the CD drive are not connected even if you think they are connected. Or it could mean that there is not transferring of data between the CD drive and the computer. What you should do is turn off the computer then unplug the CD drive. Turn on the computer then shutdown again. Plug all the cables back into the CD drive then turn on the computer. Hopefully, the hardware would be detected by the system and ready for use.

Sounds like your cd drive isn't getting any power.

Open up the case and check that the power is correctly connected (Turn your computer off first).

If it is connected, either your cd drive or the power supply is stuffed.

If its not, plug it in and see if it goes.
