Are autograph authenticators the real deal?

After checking several well known autograph authentication sites online, I've determined that they can't PROVE authentication any more than I can. So why is it they can pull so much weight and make everyone think they can positively verify an autograph? Just visit ANY of the sites and you'll see the word "opinion" thrown around a lot. You're not buying their service to verify anything. All you're doing is buying their OPINION. After all, were they there when the item was signed?  I have an electric guitar signed by Ozzy Osbourne and I was thinking of having it authenticated...but not now.  I have proof of where and how I acquired it and that should be more authentication than any of those yo-yo's can provide.

If your sure that it's real then make your own COA (certificate of authenticity) 

Look at others for ideas on how to make it - essentially you are saying that you swear it's real and if not then......

Easy to do I've done it with some stuff that I had autographed and sold on eBay.

Ozzy Rocks and I would never sell any of my autographs that I have.  His would be impossible to verify as he's had a few different ones over the years and is very inconsistent.

I am in the world of sports cards. You're right, only the person who got the autograph wil know wether its real or fake. What you are asking for is an experts OPINION. 

They have real autographs that they compare to yours. They look at similarities, say I sign my autograph and loop the T at the bottom, someone brings in an auto. They will look at my aotugraph and check to see the similarities:

Did he loop the T, ect. ect.

Now while there are 100's of Authenticators, try PSA or JSA, they are the best.
