I, too, have lived here 70 years. My husband just immigrated here from Holland, so for fun, I took the test. I, too, failed. And I am considered above average in intelligence.

These questions are for those who will study them for a test. We don't have to take the test, so we don't really need to know the answers. OK, it is patriotic, but I have other things going on in my life beside learning who is the 18th President, or whatever else they ask.

My husband had to learn a lot of these questions while in school in Europe. They learn more about USA then we do about Europe, sadly. He knows all of the States capitals, for instance. I know three!

It was important while we were in school to learn all of this, just as immigrants coming here had to learn about their country in their country. But now that they want to be an American, they need to know the history (that you and I had to learn in high school.)

When I lived in Holland for ten years, I had to learn all about Holland, their customs, traditions, politics, etc. It made me better able to understand them; I didn't resent having to learn it. I also HAD to learn their language; it wasn't a choice. And if someone hired an immigrant before they learned the language, the employer was fined 15,000 Euros. Two weeks ago, a employer was put in jail AND fined for hiring an immigrant (it is called black money, or "under the table".)

Source(s): American citizen, mother, college grad, wife, grandmother, experienced in life, world traveler. But still don't know everything I need to know about history, etc.

I did the real citizenship test last week- got 100% - was not hard at all- Not one question about the Constitution or the levels of government. How many stars on the flag, name of the ship that brought the settlers over, Presidents official home,- sad really- I studies very hard and now understand the levels of government and the Constitution.

I bet if CNN went on the street and polled random citizens many would fail... This is common...

At the same time though, the way how some Americans follow Hollywood stars though, you all should probably make Hollywood celebs. your Monarchy.

They are saying you are a citizen already and just need your parents to document it.

    What is the issue?
