How's about a 5 nations football tournament?
No-one from the British Isles is going to be talking part in Euro 2008, not that we'd want to anyway. I mean, what do Austria know about football?
So, why don't we have our own tournament. The 4 home nations, plus the Republic of Ireland.
They can all play in a mini-league, then, third and fourth play-off for the runner's up medal, and the top two have to play each other to decide the winners.
UK and Ireland 2008 - here we come.
p.s. I came up with the idea, so I want a cut of the TV money.

we did use to have one, but the smaller teams got fed up with england always winning....The British Home Championship (also known as the Home International Championship) was an annual football competition contested between the UK's four national teams, England, Scotland, Wales and originally Ireland and, later, its successor Northern Ireland, from the 1883-1884 season until the 1983-1984 season.
100 years of anything was just too much, and the real reasons was that the UEFA and FIA said the winner of that group qualifies - which means onlyu one of the home teams woudl go into major events - but thats one more than we have now ... we shoudl use the chnace to have an X fcator event - get some real players into the game, and Mourinho as manager (but we cannot afford him, give him Northern Rock as an incentive bonus freebie)

you came up with the idea? weren't they talking about that on sky sports news after either the Northern Ireland game or the England game. not a good idea either way, Rep of Ireland v Northern Ireland would be funny, but a really bad idea, the same with Rep of Ireland v England, as an Irish supporter I'd like to see that game but not a good idea again, especially not after what happened the last time they played.

There used to be a home nations tournament, but England stopped it because they thought they were too good for it.
I think Northern Ireland still claim to be reigning champions, because they won last time it was played.

Yeah - not exactly genius is it? England would win most of them, and what is the incentive - all the big boys are playing a proper tournament.
So here's your cut of the TV money: £0. Now don't spend it all at once...

and what'll that achieve? U wanna be a soccer island unto yourselves?
if every country that doesn't qualify for a major tournament is allowed to organize an alternate, then why would we need organized competitions?
