CLOVERFIELD~release date 1/18/08
"Whatever it is, it's winning!"
As far as I know, they just keep teasing us with that. People are trying to figure out what the threat is~perhaps some sort of creature from H.P. Lovecraft, dragon(s), shapeshifting monster, etc.
Here are some sites, including the official one:

IMDB site:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1060277/
"Revolves around a monster attack in New York as told from the point of view of a small group of people."
WIKIPEDIA site and information:
Production
J. J. Abrams (of "Lost" TV series fame) conceived of a new monster after he and his son visited a toy store in Japan. He explained, "We saw all these Godzilla toys, and I thought, we need our own monster, and not King Kong, King Kong's adorable. I wanted something that was just insane and intense." In February 2007, Paramount Pictures secretly greenlit Cloverfield, to be produced by J. J. Abrams, directed by Matt Reeves, and written by Drew Goddard. The project is under production by Abrams' company, Bad Robot Productions.
The casting process was carried out in secret, with no script being sent out to candidates. With production estimated to have a budget of $30 million, filming began in mid-June in New York. One cast member indicated that the film would look like it cost $150 million because the producers did not cast recognizable and expensive actors. Location filming, shot in digital video using hand-held video cameras, took place on Coney Island, with scenes being shot at Deno's Wonder Wheel Amusement Park and the B&B Carousel. Some interior shots were filmed on a soundstage at Downey, California. ...
Plot speculation
The sudden appearance of the untitled trailer for Cloverfield (as a trailer before "Transformers") fueled media speculation over the film's plot. USA Today reported the possibilities of the film being based on the works of H.P. Lovecraft, a live-action adaptation of Voltron, a new film about Godzilla, or a spin-off of the TV show Lost. The Star Ledger also reported the possibility of the film being based on Lovecraft lore or Godzilla. The Guardian also reported the possibility of a Lost spin-off, while Time Out reported that the film was about an alien called The Parasite. IGN also backed the possibility of the same premise, with The Parasite also being the working title for the film. Chocolate Outrage was also a working title at one point during production. In chats, Slusho and Colossus have been discussed as possible titles. Entertainment Weekly also disputed reports that the film would be about a parasite or a colossal Asian robot such as Voltron.

NOTE: "Cloverfield" is the working title. Whether this will be the final title is yet to be seen.
Personally, I would be ecstatic if it's an H.P. Lovecraft-based story! Cthulhu and his ilk would be devastating! We received hints in "Hellboy", in which the gateway was opened and we were given a vision of what Earth would be like. *shiver*

I saw the new trailer which actually shows a bit of the monster and it looks a bit like a godzilla type thing, i still dont think it is the next Godzilla movie but i could be eating my words in a few months, J J Abrahams said he was inspired to do the film after seeing Godzilla but he wanted another monster which wasnt King Kong

i doubt any one can answer your question. they are keeping the movie under wraps. it may not even end up being titled cloverfield when it comes out. however i believe cloverfield was the name of the town where the aliens first attack in the "war of the worlds" book. maybe thats a clue.

wouldnt you like to know.. lol lol lol
well just to let ya know.
No one but the company building it knows.
From the day it came out with Transformers, it was declared a secret that might just sit (as close as we are to release date) all the way to Jan 18th.
I wouldnt listen to too many theories, because i promise unless they personally worked either on the movie or know someone that did,. they wont know.
