I think it goes like this -

Production Line 1 - Sid Abel, Gordie Howe and Ted Lindsay

Production Line 2 - Alex Delvecchio, Gordie Howe and Ted Lindsay

Production Line 3 - Alex Delvecchio, Gordie Howe and Frank Mahovlich

There certainly was a Production Line 3, in the 1968-69 season.

There was no "The Production Line 3"

"The Production line" was a nickname for one of the most famous scoring lines in the NHL's history. The line consisted of Gordie Howe, Sid Abel and Ted Lindsay, all members of the Detroit Red Wings. In the 1947-48 season, the trio was tops on the team in scoring and in 1950, when Lindsay won the scoring crown, the three finished 1-2-3 in NHL scoring, a feat never again rivaled.

After the 1951-52 season, Sid Abel was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks to make room for another talented, abeit younger center. Alex Delvecchio would join the team and continue to dominate the league as the center of the famed "Production line II".
