Has anyone had problems with Vonage phone service?
I tried transferring my phone service to vonage. They never sent me the device I need in order to get incoming calls. We can make outgoing calls but all of our incoming calls go straight to voice mail so no one can get through. Also I went into my online account with them and tried forwarding my calls to my cell phone and it won't. I'm not sure why. I followed the directions as written and still nothing. Everyone that tries to call here is getting very frustrated that they are not able to get in touch with us for the holidays. I called vonage on Nov 2-2007 to get the service and waited two weeks to get the phone device. No one from the Vonage network called our house to let us know that UPS sent them a notice saying that they had the address wrong. I have an invoice from Vonage that has the correct address. That invoice was sent to me on Nov 2-2007 via email. I have since then called Vonage on two separate occasions to cancel my service. Still no refund and no cancellation. HELP!

your line is stuck with your old company or it was signed up wrong. You need to sit on the phone with them. IF they once cancelled an order, there system will not let you transfer. It is a pain in the butt. Just call and speak to them for a while. It is great once you get it. I save $100 plus per month with my office and business phone

Your location does not have much bandwidth or it is inconsistent bandwidth. This can happen if you have a crappy cable/dsl connection or the company that provides it to you is crappy. You can try to upgrade to the next higher bandwidth service they offer and that may help but in many cases all you are doing is upgrading the maximum bandwidth that will come through your connection at good times; the minimum bandwidths that cause the scratchiness may still occur at times at any level of service. This variable in bandwidth may change according to how many others in your area are sharing internet at a given time and other factors. If your signal is going through a router before it gets to your phone, the router is probably hurting the signal and providing insufficient bandwidth to the phone system. You may notice more trouble when someone in your home is using the internet at the same time as the phone is being used even if they are wirelessly using the connection. Try a firmware upgrade on the router-this helps about ten percent of the time. Make sure your router is a good one that can output the amount of bandwidth in gigs your phone system requires; if not, get one that does. Don't believe the stats when dealing with computer parts-they are all exaggerations; get parts that are rated significantly better than what you need. Limit the bandwidth demand on the computer to something a little faster than dialup so it won't steal your phone's signal needs as much. You can do that in the modem settings. If you need to download something big, temporarily set it higher and be aware that the phone will not work as good til you change it back. Contact Vonage and ask for more advice.
