The Odyssey has been described as a hero's journey toward self-discovery.?

Hey can you guys help discuss the theme of Identity and how Odysseus goes through a perid of self-discovery and renewal.

    Everything in individualistic societies becomes a voyage of self-discovery. But I don't see the Odyssey that way. Odysseus wants to get back to his wife Penelope and has to undergo hardships to do so. What he really discovers is the world-

    It's bigger & more complex than he thought.

    The gods aren't as supportive & helpful as he hoped.
