What componets for rebuilding my computer?
I'm planning on rebuilding my computer (or maybe just buying a whole new one). I built my own last time, but that was back in 2000 and I'm a bit rusty on the new hardware.
This will be for a machine that is for a gaming rig. I'd like to be able to stop playing HL2 and Crysis and games like them on LOW settings all the time.
For one thing, I have no idea what this new "Core Duo" thing is from Intel. The Ghz is about the same, so I'm assuming there are two of them?
And it seems now you can get dual video cards? Is it better to get two 256MB cards than one 512 card? And they're up to 768MB now? Man!!
Every other componet still seems "normal." It's just the video cards and CPU unit that confuse the heck out of me.
Thanks.

Rebuilding your current one is not a real option - the only things that you'd be keep are the case and MAYBE the powersupply, and you'd have to modify the case to fit the current boards. And depending on the power supply, it may not have a enough power to drive all the fans needed on a current gaming system.
Duo-core has two processors on a single chip that share memory.

hard drives are bigger and faster; and SATA
seperate CD and DVD writers - the combo units do okay, but not great
LCD screens - dual screens are great

Intels Core 2 Duo are, as the name indicates, dual processors. And the Higher the "Ghz" the better the processor.(It will not fit on ur old motherboard) Those are very good and you should deffinitly use one on ur new computer. As for the video cards, i Suggest buying one better card instead of 2 cheaper ones. the 8800 GT from Nvidia will be able to run your games perfectly. It is a pci-e card and i dont know if your motherboard has a pci- slot since its kinda old. I suspect it of having an agp slot so you would need to buy a new mother board too. And if you have anything below 1 gb of ram you should also upgrade that. 2 gb of ram would be ideal.
Since you build your computer in 2000, i suggest just buying a new one. I built mine 3 years ago and its already by far outdated

Dual video cards is better but make sure you have enough power supply and your motherboard has to support the dual cards also the new core duo processor might not be compatible with your motherboard.
your computer was built in 2000 i think you might need to replace most of the components in it, you should consider buying a new pc than building one

a dual core will do twice as much work without overloading the system and slowing it down ... u can even build a quad core now and thats what u should probably look at ... using dual videocards in sli or crossfire is really only cost effective for performance if u use two GOOD cards otherwise one good card will beal 2 ho-hum cards ..

hi Jack, have been i'm, we've what they call eWaste Recyclers, the place they take the desktops that individuals provide and "refurbish" them (if something in any respect is incorrect with them) and that they resell those and or sell the factors out of one that's undesirable (of direction they take the factors out). examine into that, right here i will discover some relatively great stuff for in simple terms approximately 0.5 the cost as you will get it on the internet. and a few of those issues is in simple terms some months previous.
