Sony vaio memory used but ...where???

Hello, my daughter has a Sony Vaio, a few weeks ago she had like 40% memory left and now it is almost all used but she has not installed any new programs, what can be wrong??, installing more memory will fix the problem or it will be used by "the ghost " too, thanks.

Update:

Yes is the memory in the hard disk.thanks for all the help, I checked with the anti virus and there is nothing bad.

What do u mean by memory? RAM or hard disk... Assuming u mean hard disk:

Try Windows search to find files modified after date x-y-z. In Vista, the date option is present in advanced search. In any case, there would have been new files download/installed, or the work of some software installed just before the time u saw 40% free, e.g. google desktop would create its index slowly after installation...

If you worry that there may be ghost, try a virus scanner. After that, there should be no reason for (much) more space getting eaten up. But I don't think there is a cheap and clean way to add more space, maybe u can move some huge files to a USB disk..

If u mean RAM, u can clearly see from task manager what programs are eating up memory...

Its a reminiscence card reader slot. Sony's proprietary card is Sony reminiscence Stick. in case you have a reminiscence stick(reminiscence card as in SD card, and so on) you are able to insert it interior the slot & at as quickly as see what's modern interior the cardboard on your exhibit.
