Is anyone else disappointed with Jay-Z's American Gangster CD?

I only really like Roc Boys (track 6) because of the horns.

Update:

I am disappointed based on the quality of his other albums. This one is just not that striking. It's tolerable, but I have heard MUCH better from Jay-Z. I have to agree that Success with Nas is Hittin', but the others are just mediocre to me.

Update 2:

I do think that whatever album he makes after this one will probably be good. I think this is his long overdue "sophomore slump." I guess I should say that I really think that he could do better not that I am devastated. Maybe I just had my hopes up for more than what he's offered. I will still continue to be a fan.

Update 3:

No I don't expect him to talk about the same things, but I did expect that signature Jigga/Hova passion. To me, there was no passion. The lyrics are up to par, some of the beats are up to par, but where did the passion go? You are not going to convince me that this is one of his best albums. An album is only good if it is better than mediocre and this to me is not amongst his most passionate works. I am not doubting that the album has its own style/flavor whatever you want to call it, but like I said, the Jay-Z passion is not there.

After listening to the album and getting the concept, I love the album. It's a favorite at this point. At first I thought it was a disaster, but after seeing the movie and both scripts were identical and Jay-Z did a really good job of captivating his story. I think that he is maturing as a rapper and only gets better with each album. He's hand down the greatest rapper alive!!!

Not so much disappointed b/c Jay Z is gettin that swagger back we're he can be felt in his music rather than heard. When you can feel music thats real hip hop its just original and wisdom comes with age. Russell SImmons knew what he was doing by givin up his spot to the jigga man.

Source(s): read micheal eric dysons new book its a good understanding of the culture we embrase called hip hop.

not at all. Everyone was saying that this would be his best album since Reasonable Doubt but it wasn't. When RD came out he was more of a hustler type rapper but with Gangster he is more worldwide known, has Rocawear, part minority owner of the New Jersey Nets and so on so do you still expect him to be talking about drugs and violence ?

I think they is too much hype around jay z. He needs to lay low for some time and really work hard towards a final album!!

Yes coming from the old days rap and R&B artist phase I expected more form him. I think that he should just sit back and be a major producer kind of like the role that emeinem has taken these days.
