i had ask the same question to my then would-be fiancee when he wanted me to make him a tuna melt!i ended up buying a bagful of tuna and basically fried ,baked ,mashed and even boil it to a point where the tuna might have the <looks> like it may have melted...it just did not register in my head that we are supposed to only melt the cheese and not the tuna???

it has been 3 years now and we are married.over the years i have re-construct the tuna melt to his and my taste and he loves it!!!heeheehee...

lol, the cheese is melted, i think you would have to get some REALLY high heat to melt the actual tuna. basically its just toasted bread w/ tuna and cheese thats warmed so the tuna gets warm and the cheese gets melted and gooey. think of it as a grilled cheese w/ tuna.
