I'd say that stuffing is dressing, but stuffed into the turkey!

  • The only difference is dressing is traditionally cooked outside the bird and "stuffing" is cooked inside the bird. Stuffing is usually moister and fluffier when done and dressing is a tad drier and crispy on the edges. I personally LOVE stuffing it's not thanksgiving or chicken anytime without the stuffing... if you want a quick combination of the the two stove top stuffing cooked on the stove but a little longer than the box calls for will give you the fluffy and the crispy ...

No difference necessarily ingredient-wise. The DIFFERENCE is when the dressing is STUFFED into the bird's cavity and is then baked INSIDE the bird. It's just "dressing" if it's baked in a pan. You can have a stuffed bird with extra dressing spread out in the pan around it. Most cooks will bake the bird, stuffed or not stuffed, in a pan by its self. The "dressing" being cooked in other pans. Regular dressing does not take as long to cook as does dressing inside the bird. I hope I've been clear enough to establish the "differences" for you.

Stuffing is stuffed in the bird at some point before it gets to the table. Dressing is made and served separately and only comes in contact with the turkey on the plate.

That's it, as far as recipes go they are interchangable

Stuffing is where you fill the anal cavity of the turkey with stuffing, such as breadcrumbs, sausage meat, sage and onion, etc.

Dressing is where you have the whole bird, and you have to remove the head, neck and feet, pluck the bird, and draw out the cavity, removing the giblets, and organs before washing it out with cold water, drying inside and out with kitchen paper.

Then the proper dressing is when you tie up the bird. Fully plucked, the ends of the leg joints are pushed into the cavity, the legs folded beside the brest and likewise with the wings. The string holds all the parts in place for stuffing or roasting.

Another term for dressing is removing all the bones of the bird to produce what is known as a turkey crown, but has no wings or legs attached and can be sliced when roated without any bones getting in the way.

Stuffing is stuffed into the body cavity of the bird, hence the name stuffing. Dressing is cooked in a separate pan. Otherwise they are pretty much the same thing.

People usually refer to stuffing as being cooked in the bird. Dressing is made in a pan. Otherwise, the same recipe can be used for both.

Stuffing is the food you feed a turkey before Thanksgiving to fatten him up for dinner. Dressing is the clothes he wears to dinner.

Stuffing goes inside the turkey, dressing goes on it, or beside it.

In my house we make dressing in a pan like flat bread, and the stuffing is what we stuff in the turkey's @#* and put in the oven.
