Doesn't the Bible state that Christian women should wear the hijab or I have i just misinterpreted it?

"If a woman does not cover her head, she should have her hair cut off; and if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut or shaved off, she should cover her head"

the bible 1 Corrinthians 11:3-6

It was also quite interesting to hear that Virgin Mary never used to show her hair either and used to cover up. Tradition or religion?

    [1 Corin. 11:5]

But any woman who prays and prophecies with her head unveiled dishonours

her head - it is the same as if her head were shaven, for if a woman will

not veil herself then she should cut off her hair. But if it is

disgraceful for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her wear a veil.

JUDGE FOR YOURSELVES; is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her

    head uncovered?

(It seems that Christians are unaware of the obligation

of the veil in the Bible, which made me put their verses in this book,

and for those who attack the veil in Islam should notice these verses of

their own Bible, and notice also this verse "Judge not, that you be not

judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and the

measure you give will be the measure you get.)

some fudamentalist Christian females positioned on a head masking. a number of those head coverings ought to look- to a Muslim- with regards to the comparable as hijab, and others look thoroughly diverse. A veil over the face isn't a Christian custom in any respect different than via the bride in a marriage ceremony. Head coverings in all non secular traditions are basically the traditions of people communities to tell apart themselves from different communities of people. those issues are no longer and have in no way been a commandment from God. Christians can quote the apostle Paul and Muslims can cite hadith, yet no you will tutor that God demands a woman to conceal her head.

This is explained away by many today as having been only a cultural thing, or a tradition.

They overlook the doctrine that these are inspired words from God.

Yes, a woman should pray with her head covered, and it says why.

Why this has stopped except for a few denoms. I am not sure.

If one reads the whole passage, it is quite clear. Verse 13 invites the reader to judge for his/herself.

"Judge among yourselves: is it right for a woman to pray to God unveiled?" (new King James Version)

If we then do judge for ourselves, as we are invited to do, we normally say there is no need. That fact makes it clear it has a cultural context. The Bible does not invite readers to judge for themselves, on matters such as murder, for example.

The message is not to use the church as pretext to abondon the laws and customs of society. It is obvious from the rethorical question in verse 13 that common culture of the first readers required woman to keep their heads covered. The message is plain and simple: do not upset others for nothing, and do not offend. The same message is quite clear in other writings of the same author, Paul.

Christ did not come to either make arbitrary laws, nor indeed to mingle or upset arbitrary laws of society.

I never heard the part of the Virgin Mary that you mention. That is not in the Bible. Maybe that is tradition, albeit not one that I am aware of.

I say go for it...the Virgin Mary did it, it's a part of Christianity that has been ignored.

"For if a woman does not cover her head, she might as well have her hair cut off; but if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut off or her head shaved, then she should cover her head." 1 Corinthians 11:6

^^^Proof to anyone who is ignorant^^^

Thats the reason nuns cover their Head. Not only Islam and christianity.... every religion says cover ur head.lol. Hinduism, Buddhism, Skhism, Judaism every religions. Every religion teaches about Modesty but.... i must say Bible is the MOST STRICT> (look at nuns)

That's a symbolic verse on modesty. For a long time, married women wore their hair in a bun or wimple as a sign of modesty.

This confuses a recommended tradition in the Eastern Mediterranean with a general order to all people. Basically - you have misinterpreted it.

You also need to consider the worship of the woman who dried Jesus' feet with her hair. Jesus honored this woman rather than rebuke her. Why do you think that is?

Remember, we are talking Corinth here. You need to understand the culture of the times, the city and why Paul was writing. Corinth was a cesspool of moral corruption. Exchange the covering of the head of that day with exposing your breasts in todays. You do not go to church wearing clothes that draw the eyes to your anatomy. You dress appropriately. The women of Corinth came from a very loose and immoral background of temple harlotry practices. They had not yet been able to make the transition when they decided to follow Christ. Paul was positioning them to make a clean break from their pagan past.

The New Testament is not a book of dos and don'ts. It is a manual for "reborn" living. Either your heart is right, or it is not. If you try to live by rules to make yourself look right before God--you missed it altogether.

    Ephesians 2:8-10

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

"Virgin Mary never used to show her hair either and used to cover up."

Mary a perpetual virgin - tradition (not in the Bible)

Mary never showed hair - tradition (not in the Bible)
