Emergency Landing

I was flying from Chicago to Florida and we had been in flight for 30 minutes when the pilot announced that we were returning to Chicago because it was possible that the hydraulics had gone out. We were taught all the emergency procedures during the rest of the trip and as we landed we were surrounded by many emergency vehicles. We landed safely, fortunately. When we were able to relax a passenger up front said "aren't you glad we used Dial"?

Wonderfully written story with a fascinating ending.
My husband and I were living in Reno. His brother came for a visit. We decided to fly to San Fran for dinner and a movie, stay overnight and take a commuter flight home next morning. That flight was my last.
It was only a 45 minute hop. They didn't even serve coffee.
A sudden snowstorm covered the runway faster than crews could manage it, then a freezing rain gliched the landing.
We sat up there in a milky sky for three hours which felt like five years. We were blown around a bit and in danger of running out of gas. Occasional glimpses of the runway showed fire trucks and ambulances sitting around. From my window seat I could see the jagged peaks all around us. They were very close.
You are so right about people in an extreme state of fear becoming very quiet. My feeling was that if one person panicked we all would and it would be disastrous.
When the plane finally landed a couple people dramatically kissed the ground.
I watched the two pilots walking into the terminal. I wanted to say something to them but they were too far away from me.
I wanted to thank them but I might have gotten emotional so I saluted them. I am sure they understood how grateful we all were to be alive.
Thank You for Writing.

Yes. The plane had to stay in the air for a while so that it could burn some fuel before it landed. I thought I was going to die.

No but on my first flight alone with my little brother (i was 12, he was 7 i think) we boarded then were ushered out agen and delayed 2 hours because of unknown engine problems. then we got a new jet and did the same thing and delayed 2 hours agen because a bird was stuck in the engine. then again. another bird. ended up spending my entire morning and lunch there. it was cool though cuz we had private TV :D

not exactly, but we have had to go back because we took off with a door open, which was sort of an emergency.
