Sims 2 official site down?

Question

I tried to get to the official Sims 2 website (thesims2.ea.com) from my bookmarks list, and I get a page with links to Sims 2 sites all over the world. I tried clicking on the link to the North America site, and it won't come up, but I tried several others and they came up fine. Is the North America site down for good, is it down for maintainence, or what's going on?

Someone on another forum was able to get to the Sims 1 site and posted asking about it. MaxisMel responded saying they are doing maintenance on the server.

"No worries, guys. The webteam is doing some much 
needed maintenance to get the servers in better working order among other 
things. Sorry you guys are unable to access the site at the moment. We 
appreciate your patience!

I tried earlier and I couldn't even get a page.  It was saying "this site doesn't exists or something"  They may be down, although I didn't read on the page yesterday that they were going to be doing maintenance today.

it doing the same thing for me too ....... i can look at bbs messages buts thats all ..... every time I go to to the regular; thesims2.ea.com web link it redirects me to the old sims1 website the one with the globe picture on

It's down for me too. I have no idea, but I would think that they would have some sort of maintenance message

It was down for a bit, but is back up now. It may go down and back up as they are performing maintenece.
