I can't access my color settings for 256 colors in Windows 98, what should I do!?

My computer recently had a virus and I brought it to the technician who installed Windows 98. It works. The only problem is when I go into settings and try to change my screen resolution to 800 x 600. The only thing I get is 16 bits and a screen resolution lower than 800 x 600. Is it possible that Windows is incomplete or needs an update to 256 colors. Everything works except the right amount of colors for displaying the graphics. I am suprised that I only have 16 bits instead of 32 or 256 colors. Thanks for your advice.

265 colors is less colors than 16bit, and thats less than 32bit fyi, and if your screen resolution is only up to 800x600, and it used to be higher, then you're computer is missing up to date video card drivers, find your videocard's model and developer and they should provide up to date drivers on their website.

I doubt '98 goes up any more than 16bit. Have you gone higher before?
