Polluting the world with your wii?
Greenpeace has just released it's guide to greener electroncs for this year. Sony are the only one out of the console three console manufacturers to get a pass and Nintendo is the first company ever to not score any points: http://www.greenpeace.org/international/campaigns/...
In detail: http://www.greenpeace.org/raw/content/internationa...
Just curious how any Nintendo owners feel about killing the planet.
Before anyone says anything I realise I said console twice, it was a typo.
JD they didn't test hundreds of wiis, that's just stupid they looked at the manufacturing process and materials etc.
To all the people who pointed out that some categories were marked as "No information" I think it's more likely that Nintendo didn't release this information. You're saying that Greenpeace was able to get this information from other companies but for some reason when it came to gathering the information from Nintendo they just couldn't be bothered which is just plain stupid. I don't follow greenpeace but I can't really disagree with their environmentalism or their goal of eliminating toxic, carcinogenic chemicals.

the nintendo Wii uses the same amount of electric as a light bulb and the PS3 uses the same amount of electricity as a computer left on all night. So...lets screw the world up. :)

I wish Nintendo was more efficient, but its still is a great system and most owners are very happy with it.
Also interresting to note that i don't see many Nintendo owners bashing Playstation owners, but I do see the reverse.
Why? If I had my way, I'd own both. For now, I have the Wii.
Playstation 3 is a very powerful system, but if I can get as much fun from a system for $250.00 I'll do it!
Playstation 3's biggest issue was the price point entering the market and the fact that it is expensive to make games for.
It was announced at E6 for $599.00, and sony thought that people would be willing to pay for the technology. Some will, but not all, and not the hardcore fans, before there is a wealth of titles out there.
Now Sony has a $399.00 entry point, and next year will bring some games to the platform, so you should see sales pick up quite a bit.
Nintendo read the market well this time, with a full system at $250.00 and unique gaming that is geared toward the casual gamer and the non-gamer. They discovered a new market.
Sony can still turn things around...but they will need to share the prize this time. Where Sony used to dominate the market place, they now need to share it with Xbox 360 which won some of the hardcore gamers away, and Nintendo, which created a safe haven for casual gamers, non-gamers, older gamers as well as family gamers.
Playstation 3 is a great system....but so is the Nintendo Wii.
I cannot wait for the 8th generation Units. I figure that since all three will be competing as they never did before, the consumer will be in for some amazing consoles!
I think the 8th Generation releases will be in the 2011-2012 time frame...I suspect we will see a playstation with more Wii like capabilities, a Wii with better graphics and an Xbox with a better Hardware reliability, and Knockout graphics (I doubt they will adopt Wii like capabilities.)

UMMMMMMM, did anyone actually read the grading criteria? Clearly the original poster didn't. Nintendo basically scored a 0 because they chose not to disclose any information. That doesn't mean they are bad.
The Wii uses far less electricity (even in WiiConnect24) mode than the PS3 or XBox360. I can't comment on the manufacturing materials but I find it hard to believe that they vary in any large degree from any other hard polymer/plastic product or electronic circuitry.
Besides, if they use more harmful products relative to another manufacturer to keep down consumer costs then I'm fine with that. Recent trends of gaming console unit cost is disturbing. Thankfully the good ol' N knows to keep gaming costs down.

Actually, these scores were based on the recycling of components after the console is trashed, and the wii hasn't been recycled to any degree to affect the planet. You could look at other consoles produced by Nintendo, and I'd take it more seriously.
In addition, I think it's ridiculous to blame the manufacturer for inappropriate recycling, it's the responsibility of the consumer to find appropriate facilities for the disposal of electronics. Grow up people, and stop blaming the businesses, it's like suing McDonald's for having hot coffee, a big DUH moment.

Well as greenpeace did not do any real research within making the rating it is means nothing. Anyway if greenpeace really are that worried about the world then they sould live in tree houses with the birds and the bees.

I don't think you know what you're talking about. Can you read at all? If you could, you wouldn't have posted this question.
The website states:
Precautionary Principle-No reference to the Precautionary Principle
Chemicals Management-No product specification or list of of banned or restricted substances, no information on it's supply chain, no mechanism for identifying substances.
Timeline for PVC phaseout- No policy on use of PVC.
Timeline for BFR phaseout- No policy on use of BFR's.
PVC-free and/or BFR-free models-No information.
Provides voluntary takeback where no EPR laws exist-No information.
Provides info for individual customers on takeback in all countries where products are sold-No information.
Reports on amount of waste electrical and electronic equipment collected and recycled-No information.
(This basically means, you and your precious greenpeace.org is too lazy, stupid, and immoral to get enough information to make an exceptable representation of these companies.)

Greenpeace is radical leftist organization. Their agenda is based on politics, not science, which is why some of its founders have left the organization and spoke out against it. If they were really concerned about the environment, they would be lobbying the government to allow companies to build more nuclear power plants, not attacking Nintendo.

How do you feel quoting an organization whose co-founder left because they were more interested in fighting capitolism than protecting the environment?

In terms of energy efficiency, I heard the wii is quite good.
