Addicted to Marijuanna?
I'm almost 24. For about 3 years I have been what would be considered a heavy pot smoker. I never even tried the stuff until I was 20. Then it was just on the weekends. For a good while now (like 2 years) I have been smoking every night when I get home from work. And I mean like 2-4 pipes a night on average. I was really bad for awhile, smoking as soon as I woke up, while on lunch breaks at work, and then more when I'd get home. But I have stopped smoking in the mornings and during work - just when I get home. I feel like I'm addicted to it - when I get close to running out I start to panic a little. I'm on edge and not so pleasant when I don't smoke, not to mention I feel bored as hell.
What I'm trying to get at is this - if I were drinking beer, I'd definitely be considered an alcoholic (I drink like 3 times a year, I don't like how alcohol tastes). All I hear all the time is how pot isn't addictive - but I feel like I can't stop. What can I do?

We can become addicted to most anything. It is not necessarily the marijuana, but the habit you have formed, and your body has become accustomed to the high you are giving it. The same is true of people who become addicted to shopping, or gambling, or so many other things. The only way you can overcome an addiction is to stop and fight your way through the cravings. You may have some luck slowing down, but your habit will still be there. There are places you can go for help, but in the end it is you and only you who will make it successful or not. It can be helpful to find a substitute activity like sports or some hobby as this will divert your mind. If you are sitting around alone at night smoking then you definitely need to get involved with people so your time is shared and you have something to replace your boredom. Good luck.

I don't know about being addicted to marijuana, but I do know this: While driving, I would much rather encounter a driver who had only been smoking pot versus one who'd been drinking alcohol. In fact, it is my opinion that marijuana could reduce road rage and make traffic a lot easier to get around in, but that's just me...
However, if you FEEL as if you are addicted to marijuana, or if you have been smoking so much of it you're worried that you may have a problem, then you probably need to address this issue with a professional who can advise you appropriately. Sure, you feel like you can't stop smoking it, because it makes ya feel so good. That doesn't mean you can't stop -- I know you can, because I did, years ago...I simply didn't have the funds to buy it anymore. I'm just as happy and don't have any urge to smoke it. You can quit, if you want to, dear. Talk to a counselor if you're really concerned. God bless you and good luck.

Addiction can be mental and your body can for habits that make you feel the way you do. It's good that you realize what you have and have done something about it. Try only doing it with your friends instead of by yourself when you get home. I'm sure there are other ways for you to relax without being intoxicated. I'm kind of in the same boat as you but now since i started working i pass out quickly because of the lower tolerance (i smoked a lot in college and just got out). I joined a couple soccer leagues and it helps pass the time with something i enjoy, and there's no way i can play high, ha.

I do believe that you can become addicted to marijuana just like any other drug. If you are really concerned and want to stop then you need to get some help to stop. Check with your local health department anonomously and they can steer you in the direction of kicking the habit. Good luck
