Can someone tell me the name and author of this book?

Question

This book is about a painting that an art gallery owner discovered. It depicts Christ, standing before Pontius Pilot and a huge crowd of people. The artist has taken great care to paint many individual faces among this clearly hateful and bloodthirsty crowd. The freaky thing about this painting is, that any viewer who looks at it, sees his or her own face on one of the people in the crowd. This is a real book, but I've forgotten the title and author.

Update:

I have since found out the name of the book. "The Shape of Illusion" by the same author that wrote "Lilies of the Field."

Don't laugh but I googled almost every word that you gave and came up with this:
Shadows Cast by The Light of the World: William Holman Hunt's Religious Paintings,1893-1905
Google it, I don't know if it's right or not.  Probably not.
