Disappearing Family Values?
It seems to me that families aren't nearly as close as I remember when I grew up. I come from a Sicilian background and family was and always will be the most important thing in the world to me but the more I look around the less I see in other families. Is it just a new era, a cultural thing, or am I just screwy?

Your culture is known for strong ties to family. Blood is blood, no matter what. As for most people, things are no where close to what used to be. Look at all the different stuff in our world today. We have access to millions of people with the typing of a few words on our keyboards, see I am talking to you and I have no idea where or who you are. Today's world has so little time to just relax and enjoy our families, that no wonder we seem to be far apart. A 3 bedroom house usually has 3 phones, 2 or 3 computers, 3 television sets, cell phones, and each person is in his own space. I remember different times, and yes, it is a shame that those days are gone forever, but, cheer up, I guarantee you are not screwy. Well, at least over this issue. LOL

Because people aren't as connected to the land, people do not live around their extended families any more. That's the main thing. Even if they did, because of birth control, their families aren't extended like they used to be. If everybody was an only child, then there simply aren't aunts, uncles, and cousins generated. At all. Can't be close to them if they're not born.

you are so right. nothing is the same as when i grew up, everything is screwy but you can start a root book for yourself and try and have a party to get every one together for info on your root book. goodluck sweetie

people are to selfish to have family ties now. I know that sound harsh but it's true. Family sizes are shrinking and people are to consider about themselves to make the sacrifices needed for family ties. It's sad.

I was abused by my family, so they can go get fxcked, I don't need them. I have made my own family, it is my friends and my partner.
Just because I am related to someone, doesn't mean anything.
