Moving story; Holocaust survivor reunited with her rescuer?

A 94 year old Holocaust survivor from Tel Aviv was reunited last week with the elderly Polish woman who helped hide her during the Holocaust. The pair had not seen each other for more than 60 years. Irena Walulewicz, 82 and her late mother Zofia, hid Golda Bushkanietz in their home for months during 1943, even after a neighbour denounced them to the Germans. They have been recognized as Righteous Among The Nations by Yad Vashem.

I found this story moving. The non Jews who showed such courage were incredible, don't you think?

I often think that if everyone had shown such compassion, we would not have lost so many Jews during that terrible time.

Anyway, just thought I'd post this for those that might find it interesting. The full story is in the Jerusalem Post.

Update:

ANDY - of course we do, that's why I posted this! And it's why at Yad Vashem, in Jerusalem, there is a special area where we pay tribute to Righteous Gentiles; those who risked their own lives to save Jews in WW2.

Update 2:

Hey thanks Spreez!

It takes these kind of stories to renew our faith in humanity.

Those who helped to conceal others from the Nazi terror displayed the utmost in courage and compassion. There are many memorials to victims of the Holocaust and rightly so. I hope the Jewish people also remember those who died trying to help them.

It's very moving. We should all take a moment and ask ourselves if we would have had the courage and love to do the same thing for someone else.

I am glad so many people took the risk of losing their own life to help the persecuted Jews. My heart is with the need for a twin state and peace between Arab and Jew.
