7 AnswersIsrael1 decade agoIs it common for Israeli seculars to object to being called Jews rather than Israelis...?
or are the two terms seen as more or less synonymous in Israel?
I am referring especially to atheist and agnostic Israelis who have no belief at all in Judaism.

10 AnswersIsrael1 decade agoWithout British support, could Israel have become a reality?
Did the early zionists have any contingency plans in the case of lack of support from the British at the beginning or middle of the planned creation of the state of Israel?
By what means could they have created the state without British help from the beginning?
For whomever wants to respond that the Jews fought off the Arabs alone in 1948, I am speaking of the period well before that, going all the way back into the 1880's and the first major waves of immigration up until 1947.

9 AnswersIsrael1 decade agoIs the mood about the future changing among Israelis?
I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT IF ONLY ISRAELIS OR OTHERS WHO KNOW A NUMBER OF PEOPLE LIVING IN ISRAEL WOULD RESPOND TO THIS QUESTION.
I was listening to the BBC World Service and they're having a special all week on this question. The woman who was interviewed yesterday was 33, secular, and liberal. ( I didn't catch today's, unfortunately.) She said that she sees a change because more and more young people are looking abroad for their future lives and it is now accepted as normal. Whereas 10 years ago, she says, it was considered unpatriotic to consider leaving. She also mentioned that it was now common for people to try to get foreign passports, just in case they want to leave in the future.
So do you agree with her perspective?
Does it match your experience?
What do you think makes people more pessimistic now, specifically, than in the past?
And if you disagree, could you explain why?
Thanks, guys. Looking forward to your answers. I've missed being here. :)
10 AnswersIsrael1 decade agoHave you read "The Other Side of Israel"?
What are your thoughts on it?
If you haven't read it, here is a brief description. A British oleh and proud zionist named Susan Nathan (the author) went to live in an exclusively Arab town in the Galilee called Tamra and her understanding of the nature of Israel and what life is really like for "Israeli Arabs" changed profoundly in the process. She recounts many poignant moments along her journey as she met both Jews and Arabs struggling to bridge the divide between them and she gives fascinating insight into what is really needed to bring them closer together. Most importantly, she provides many specific examples of how the legal, economic, political, educational, and social framework in Israel is set up to favor Jews, though the barriers to Arab equality are often carefully hidden.
12 AnswersIsrael1 decade agoAnti-zionists only:If Palestine really had been a "place with no people, for a people with no place"...
...as was sometimes said in the early days of zionism, would you have accepted it? In other words, would you accept a Jewish state in the land now known as Israel if no other people had suffered as a consequence of its creation? If not, why not?
