Have you read "The Other Side of Israel"?
What are your thoughts on it?
If you haven't read it, here is a brief description. A British oleh and proud zionist named Susan Nathan (the author) went to live in an exclusively Arab town in the Galilee called Tamra and her understanding of the nature of Israel and what life is really like for "Israeli Arabs" changed profoundly in the process. She recounts many poignant moments along her journey as she met both Jews and Arabs struggling to bridge the divide between them and she gives fascinating insight into what is really needed to bring them closer together. Most importantly, she provides many specific examples of how the legal, economic, political, educational, and social framework in Israel is set up to favor Jews, though the barriers to Arab equality are often carefully hidden.
Hopeless- Very insightful indeed, my dear. You are quite right as to my inspiration.
Esther- I was referring specifically to legal preferences.
alan m- Pray tell what country is "their own"?

The State of Israel openly favors Israelis, why shouldn't they?
I don't think disfavor toward Arabs is carefully hidden at all. Israelis have a lot of resentment toward Arabs. Many hate them and wish they would just be transplanted elsewhere.
There is too much bitterness now leaving very little room for anything else. Let Arabs figure it out for themselves and stop leaning on The State of Israel for support.
edit..and I am referring to ANY preference, legal, economic, political, educational, social or otherwise. I feel that Arabs do not act independently and yet they want to have a say in every decision Israel makes. I simply don't see why Israel should be supportive of hostile citizans.

I have heard of it. One of my colleagues said it was good but I haven't gotten around to reading it. The only thing that makes me kind of suspicious is that if she was a proud Zionist why did she go to live in an exclusively Arab town to write a book? It seems like anyone who would do that already has an opinion.
But, like I said, I haven't read it.

Thats the problem with living in a small arab town in Israel. You tend to get a small view. An arab view. Considering the general anti Israel attitude from arabs in Israel then why do they stay. Maybe its better than their own country. Anyway her book is simply not "the other side of Israel". Its "her side on Israel. " Just one view. And it sells books !

An intriguing book. The truth might be painful, but someday we have to face it whether we like it or not. Shalom.

No, but it sounds fascinating. I'm very impressed whenever someone changes their mind. I used to be pro-Israel, actually, having no information on the matter at all (knowing about the Holocaust does that to people.)

Sadly Muslim by Choice many will not believe you, the author, or the book. Plz see this question and see how many on this site really think or believe that arabs are treated like kings in Israel. Peace!
Why are muslem arabs better off living in israel, under israeli goverment, then in gaza?
AHA, the reason for your question was from this question. :) Thumbs up to you.

I don't believe it. A zionist who looked around themself, saw something different and changed their belief.
Never heard of such a thing happening before. Is it a first?
Anyone else know or heard of a zionist that has learnt something?
