Are we all in agreement that it is ok for immigrants to break the law and not be punished?
Or does that privilege only belong to westerners when they go to a foreign country.

Touché.
Source(s): -You're completely right, we shouldn't be decrying her being punished for breaking the law. We SHOULD however be decrying the archaic thinking behind the law (and some we have here i.e. some states still have Sodomy laws) and advocating for it's change. - Anonymous1 decade ago
I'm assuming this is about the teddy bear.
I think part of the issue there is that even the Muslim teaching assistant didn't think it was a violation of Sharia Law. I think that the issue of whether naming a teddy bear "Muhammed" is against Sharia Law is open to interpretation, and I think the question of whether she actually violated the law has not fully been settled.
I might be wrong, but I think the issue is whether or not she broke the law, rather than whether or not she deserves to be punished for it.

No.
We must always abide by the laws of the country we are in.
Many countries do not concern themselves with human rights, unfortunately. Mexico, for instance, where you can be detained for an unlimited amount of time without being charged with any crime.
Hey, much like the US and those at Guantanamo Bay.

I was wondering that myself.
Of course, I was also wondering how naming a bear after Muhammad is more insulting than naming a screaming brat child after him, but that was idle.
And whether she would have been punished if she were a Sudanese Muslim male, but that is also idle.

You think you're being clever, but you're not.
You are missing the point entirely. The point of drawing attention to this ugly episode is to underscore the necessity of keeping the followers of such a barbaric religion out of our country.
What they do to their own country is their business. What they want to do to my country is my business.

anyone who breaks the law should be punished, amarican or not. the bible says to follow the laws of the land, unless they contradict what God says. that means if we do break another contrys laws, we should be punished.
