What does it mean when my heart "skips a beat" or "Flutters"?

It happens every once in a while, but i have looked it up on some of the medical sites that i picked off from Yahoo Search. & things didn't look so good. But on one of the sites, the page read that people live with it after a while for the rest of their lives. It can be due to many causes. But i have no idea. It can also be tied in with being emotional. But i am emotional when it comes to my bf, (only good things, not bad). It's like when you think of someone your heart feels like you are trying to grasp for air for one second or less, and then the fluttering is gone. I don't know, but could someone tell me please. Really bothering me just thinking about it. I know it's not my bf either. I think it has to do with something deeper, like health wise but not sure fully.

It is very common. Everyone has them but don't always feel them. It is called a PVC (pre-ventrical-contraction) and nothing to worry about unless you get several in a row before you have a normal heartbeat. I have them, they are caused from stress. The more you worry, the more of them you will have. Don't let all those who answered your question scare you. I was an EMT/Paramedic for several years and seen a lot of these. You can actually see them on an EKG machine when you have one. Believe me, you are fine. You just need to relax. They are more common than you could imagine.

"My heart skips a beat when I'm around you" means that when the person who is in love with you is around you, they stop functioning. I mean, not literally, but they get caught up in the moment with you and forget everything. Yes, your heart "actually skips a beat" when you're in love, meaning that your breath gets caught in your lungs when you see that person, or even, think about them. Your heart beating really fast means that you are nervous. You'll know when you're in love in the future, alright? :D

Definitely have a cardiologist run some tests and diagnose it properly. You may be able to prevent something worse 10 or 20 years from now.

It's very common and by itself it is not a cause for worry. Get a check-up, mention it and have the doctor check it out. But often it is not cause for worry.

Source(s): This occasionally happens to me also. I had my doc check it out but I am fine. My sis gets them too.

    Please see a doctor ASAP.

There could be several things that are happening.

It could be something simple, but only a doctor can advise you.

    Bless you and Merry Christmas.
