Trivia - I hope this is a tough one!?

Baseball fans amaze me with their knowledge of the game.. it's hard to come up with questions that somebody doesn't get almost immediately. So let me try this one -

Who was the last American League pitcher to get a hit before the designated hitter rule went into effect?

I'm sure one of you will answer this correctly mere seconds after it's posted. Ten points to first correct answer. Good luck!

Update:

Sorry I A X - I should have stated "regular season". I was not considering playoffs. Points go to David P

You can argue that Gowell of the yankees was the last one, if you don't count the world series. In the world series, however, Catfish of the A's was the only American league pitcher to hit, and since Gowell was not in the world Series, Catfish was the last AL pitching hitter.

edit---well then the question should be disputed. lol. j/k.

either way, Catfish was the very, very last AL Pitching hitter.
