rear ended a car on a left turn?
A car (car 1) was in front of me (car 2) at a red light, left turn only lane. Both of our car was completely stop. Lights turn green and both of us proceeded. Oncoming traffic was a red light. Car 1 was making a left turn, a car (car 3) ran a red light from oncoming traffic causing car 1 to break immediately right in front of me (car 2). The car 3 that ran the red light did not get hit because car 1 brake really hard. Because of the sudden stop due to car 1 avoiding car 3 from running the red light, car 2 (my car) rear ended car 1.
In this situation, who is at fault? Car 3 is not in the picture because car 3 sped off. Car 2 hit car 1 due to a hard break from car 1 to avoid car 3 from running a red light.
Please help. I need answers asap.

You are at fault, unfortunately. I know it doesn't seem fair, since Car 3 ran a red light, but in a rear-end accident, the car that was behind is always at fault. You are supposed to have a large enough following distance to be able to prevent such an occurrence.

Car 2 was obviously too close to car 1. You don't leave a safety zone, you hit the car in front, it is your fault. Yes, the trigger was the car that ran the red light, but car 1 was able to avoid the collision, and was rewarded by a person behind not paying attention and in a hurry. Sorry.

I'm pretty sure that anytime you rear end someone, it's mostly if not completely your fault, because you should always be following behind the car in front of you at a distance safe enough to completely stop at without hitting them.

In actuality car 3 is at fault but when cops look at your situation they will say you are because you were following to closely or some other bs.

Basicaly everyone answering is right. Im afraid you are at fault. Pay attention to your surroundings especially in front of you. Driving nowadays is no joke. Dont take it for granted. I learned the hard way.

Check to see if the redlight that was run had a camera that they use to ID liscense plates. If they did you're in the clear.
If there was no camera, and your story checks out with car 1's story, then you should be fine.
But it was deifnately car3's fault.

You were obviously following too close that you couldn't stop in time, so you are at fault.

Car 2. Failure to maintain control of vehicle.
