Best NFL hit ever?
I always liked the Monday Night Game Chiefs at Broncos nearly 20 years ago (1990?) when Steve Atwater decleated the Nigerian Nightmare (Christian Okoye). The beginning of the end for Okoye.

Some dude from the Bears about 25 years ago, maybe more, nicknamed the "Hammer" {not Ditka} hit a player on the Chiefs. I saw it on one of those reel runs like they do. I don't know if there is a search for such things but if so look this one up. My God! Worth a look if its findable. I know Chris Berman would know the exact hit. Better than the Nightmare getting clobbered although Atwater did lay his butt out.

I've seen a lot of pretty good hits in my 27 years, but up until this year, I've never seen anything like the Dallas and I think it was the Vikings, when the Cowboys' Jason Witten got hit pretty from the front and the back causing his helmet to come off, making him bobble for a second, then he ran for 35 yards without his helmet and he had a bloody nose. That's probably in the top five most impressive things I've witnessed in Pro football. I'm proud to say I own an autographed football from him.

That Atwater hit was a good one, but my favorite is from a 1995(?) Bills/Jets game. Bruce Smith was in the backfield before the Jets LT even got out of his stance and he just leveled Boomer Esiason. Boomer's body went parallel to the ground and just landed with a thud, with Bruce Smith right on top of him.

I'm with you 100% on the Atwater hit. That was great. Okoye was feared by everyone at the time....and Steve just knocked him into next week. I bet Okoye still feels that hit.

First thing I thought of was my man Reggie getting blasted in the playoffs last year against the Eagles. Clean hit, perfectly timed, Reggie got destroyed.
BTW - the Hammer played for the Chiefs, not the Bears. You might recognize him from the movies

Jack Tatum was the hardest hitter I've ever seen. His hit on Darryl Stingley had unfortuntae, tragic consequences, but it was a clean hit; they guy just hit hard. Lott was great, as mentioned. The late Eric Turner, when he was on the Browns, was devistating as well. He would have two or three really great tackles every game.

In the Saints/Eagles 2006 NFC Divisional Round when Reggie Bush caught a swing pass out of the back field and then proceeded to get absolutley leveled by Sheldon Brown. I cringe everytime I see that hit.

Playoff game, Steve Tasker of the Bills lit some guy up on special teams. One of the hardest hits I have ever witnessed. I think it was against the Oilers.
