The best tasting hamburger is at the restaurant on the top floor of the Hyatt Regency Union Square. It is located at the corner of Sutter and Stockton Streets. I think the restaurant is still called Club 36 as it is on the 36th floor. Never the less, it is easy to find and has the perfect hamburger/cheeseburger. Along with one of the best romantic San Francisco views you get a hamburger made out of KOBE BEEF. It has flavor like no other burger. It is seasoned and cooked to perfection. Kobe beef is the one factor that really makes a hamburger state of the art !!

Take the ferry to Saulsalito, there is a great hamburger place right on the main strip there, the grill is round and turns in a circular motion, the use wood for the fire and they use high quality, certified angus beef, Awesome Burgers, worth the trip over, not to mention the views are great from Saulsalito to view San Fran.

    Barney's on Steiner and Chestnut

Burgermeister on either Columbus in North Beach or on Church in the Castro

There's this good place up the street from Kaiser on Geary that's pretty good too, but I can't for the life of me think of the name, sorry.

Also on Mission wayyyy up there in the Excelsior there's this place. I think the guy's name is Joe or some generic thing like that and there's this sign that says he "grinds his own fresh chuck everyday" or something.

I need to take ginkgo or something.

Best "classic" is reds ,not a great burger but a piece of history.

A little red shack on the pier that served our soldiers and sailers during ww2 ask a local, p.s. its nothing fancy and their is always a line because it is a historical event not a meal. The conversation in line and the atmosphere. Thats Frisco

Zuni cafe is the best burger place in SF. They are known for their burgers, (all house ground beef) and the follow dishes, their great roasted chicken with bread salad, and those beautiful pillows of magic, fresh ricotta gnocchi. You'll love the brass bar down stairs as well. Don't miss it .

According to www.yelp.com, San Franciscans rate Bullshead Restaurant as the best burgers. I've been there - they grind their own meat (I think they use chuck which is what most top chefs use).
