WHat should i do about my 16 year old son?

He told me a few months ago about how he was heartbroken that the first girl he had ever liked turned him down...he was really heartbroken ....but since then he's just practically locked himself in his room ...hes really changed ..all he does is listen to this horrible music( i found this song on a cd that was lying around)http://www.youtube.com/watch? v=N4HjsZqOaQ0 and doing heavy weights(should i be worried about steroids??) i know its pretty bad ...and ive had teachers ringing home saying that hes been going round in school beating up guys for no reason(granted they are the jock types which he hates) i mean he was never like this..he was a sweet young guy who wouldnt harm a fly . I find it hard to remember back to those days when i was a teen ...can a girl cause him that much hurt??

Update:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4HjsZqOaQ0 sorry the last url doesnt work this is one of the songs he listens too

Update 2:

i dont have an account...i took his computer away from him .I am just using his old account ...dont be so immature

That's a tough one. I hope you've taken him to task over the 'beating up guys' thing.

He's just being a moody teenager and wallowing in self-pity. He needs a good kick up the rear - I have a 16 yr old myself - they are so self-centred at that age, they need reminding that the planet doesn't revolve around them and life goes on. How you do that is down to you.

The song is nothing to worry about songs really don't make people kill unless they were all ready crazy to start with and in that case anything could trigger an episode. I am 24 and used to listen to 2pac which is the rapper that song is by and it never did me any harm.

I also don't think it has much to do with this girl it may have knocked his confidence a bit but at the moment your son is just being a teenager that doesn't make some of his behaviour OK you need to get it in the right proportions songs and weights doesn't mean he is taking steroids, steroids are very expensive. and stop excusing and blaming his behaviour on others if he is doing wrong he knows it. and you passing it off as this girls fault or being violent because he doesn't like jocks is you trying to make yourself feel better and the truth is his behaviour doesn't make you a bad parent or him a bad child its teenage rebel ion that you have to try and guide him through but cannot stop, keeping caring about your son and in a couple of years time your son will do what we have all done. I am sorry mum I was a real S**t as a teenager.

My son is 16 as well. He and his best friend are both in love with the same girl. In the midst of all this he is no longer going to school, smoking pot, drinking, and coming and going as he pleases. I think that this girl is the reason, but then again my kid is lazy. Won't get a job, and lies like there is no tomorrow. He has been working out and taking "creatine" which helps enhance his muscles. Music plays a big part in his life. Alot of negative phrases. He is into rap and heavy metal! Go figure. I have tried to get him interested in other things to get his mind off this chick but he swears she's the one. I keep telling him that a young girl doesn't want to be with a guy who is always under the influence. His attitude has gotten worse, counseling he laughs at and says I am wasting my money. All I can do now is wait until he's 18. God it can't get here fast enough.

Good luck. Kids these days are nothing like my generation. There is no respect, they constantly have their hand out for money and have plenty of lies to fill in the gaps. I give up.

If you’re unsure if an adolescent in your life is depressed or just “being a teenager,” consider how long the symptoms have been present, how severe they are, and how different the teen is acting from his or her usual self. While some “growing pains” are to be expected as teenagers grapple with the challenges of growing up, dramatic, long-lasting changes in personality, mood, or behavior are red flags of a deeper problem.

May I suggest you need to see a councilor. My cousin's 16 year old comittes sucide because his girl rejected him. Look for the symtoms. Talk to your son and get help.

Omg I thought that video was gonna be some heavy metal screaming about suicide. Its ok thats called rap music and its what 9 outta 10 teenagers listen to. I listen to it and its the norm these days. About the weights he's trying to show her he is better than the other guy she might be dating now. He's more than likely trying to get her attention. Talk to him man to man and ask him whats going on. Tell him he can talk to you about whatever. Your not going to judge him or get mad. And your going to hafta mean it. Being disappointed and telling him why you feel like that will have a better effect than getting mad and not hearing him out. Having punishment is ok if he is doing something bad but explain to him calmly why you are doing this. He should be able to understand. The music is what everyone listens to and its not that bad. Pick and choose your battles.

I think he's just acting out because the girl doesn't like him, and she maybe likes the jock type thats why he gets into fights with them...once he finds another girl he likes he'll be ok. Music is an outlet he's just expressing his self through music

yes a girl can cause him that much hurt, my own teens was heartbroken when the opposite sex broke up with them, the hormones and stuff play havoc with them and everything was the end of the world keep on trying to talk to him and getting him to go out has he a friend a good one he can talk to, it is a phase and he will come through it good luck,

Find a way to get him out and about. Take him somewhere just you and him..like a park or something and talk to him. Chances are he just needs to talk and keep himself busy..around others. and he should get out of that stage. Find a hooby he's good at and help him persue it. Doesnt have to be jocky. Since he likes lifting weights, maybe have his father take him to the gym once or twice a week. keep him busy and talk to him...

can a girl hurt that much... er yeah.

This is why sex and realtioship ed should be put in place well before hand to help pre empt stuff like this which is what they do in Holland.

Aggression + weights may well indicate steroids.

Also hes getting into dangerous rap music.

Now heavey metal with all its horror imagry etc... is taken no more seriously then halloween parties and those into those scnes are very nice and friendly

rap and hip hop on the other hand... well look at all the gang warefare and kids shooting each other for real.

The only times you get rock kids doing that is when been bullied and rejected so mach they have no more reason to live and only know pain.

Sounds like he has been mugged and bullied as well and getting nasty mates into this gang ****.

    Also look for drug signs

In particular crack and cocaine and speed and crystal meth can all make you aggressive.

Ecstasy turns you nice and huggy

Likewise new super strong cannibis can mess you in the head unlike the weak hippy stuff.

Your Son needs new role models that teach reaspect in the form that bullys aint worthy of respect thay hurt people and make them scared.

but when weak people would not piss on them to put out the fire if they are burning.

When you have true respect people are willing to trade their lives for yours.

This is very well shown (get it out) in Spiderman 2, when he stops the train and the passengers knowingly put their lives on the line to try and protect the person who saved their lives.

Likewise Get Ghandi out and show how this weak dude got the british out of India and stopped wars as people wanted him to live.

Also get him into adrenaline sports like snowbardsing, skate boarding, free running to work out the stress and into heavey metal were he can bouce around a moshpit to de stress without hurting others.

Rock music scens teach to look after others and the strong look after the weak

Tell him you understand that it hurts.

Everybody (you included) has to go through it and it is never fun.

Ask him if he thinks he's the only one.

And ask him if he thinks it's fair to hurt others because he feels bad.

    Leave it at that.
