What can I do or my family do to honor my sister on the first anniversary of her death?
She died suddenly last December 8th. I'm halfway across the country, but worry about how her daughters (in their early 20s) and my parents (early 80s) will cope with this day. Any suggestions?

Since you probably can't all get together, try to show you care in different ways for each. I recently experienced the first anniversary of my husband's death and I live a long way from my family. One sent flowers, another an email, and one made a phone call. I valued all of them equally.

I'm very sorry for your loss. How about doing something that you all know your late sister love to do in her honor. Like go to her favorite restaurant or favorite theme park. Or her favorite beach and remember all the sweet funny things she did or just talk about all the good times and how special she made you feel. I remember for the loss of a loved one we had bought many colored balloons and said a good bye sentence and prayer and let them all go at once or one by one. I think this is a lovely tribute to her! I don't know what your beliefs are buy in my heart I know she can hear you and your prayers!

I am so sorry for your loss! You could call a local florist or go online and have a tree sent to them in her honor. They could plant it for her. Or you could buy a star in her honor.

If she was buried you could have flowers ordered and placed on her grave along with a note which can go with the flowers. If she was cremated you could donate to a charity in her name as the late (her name here).
