I'm a retired librarian, so I apply my reference skills to answering questions.
Looking for information on Georgie A. Smith, Milford, Conn.?
I have an old autograph book from 1880 with Georgie's name in the front. I don't know if Georgie is a man or a woman. Any idea how I would find a relative who would want this book? Smith is such a common name.
2 AnswersGenealogy1 decade agoInternet Explorer crashing after new security software installed?
I can't use Internet Explorer now on Windows Vista after my husband installed new security software. Where do I start looking for a fix? I tried downloading it online. Didn't work. Rebooted, didn't work.

7 AnswersSecurity1 decade agoAnyone celebrate Christmas like Little House on the Prairie?
I've written an article on eHow about how to celebrate Christmas the Little House on the Prairie way. I'd like to add some people's personal experiences to it. Have you ever celebrated an old-fashioned, pioneer Christmas? What did you do and how did you like it?
4 AnswersChristmas1 decade agoHow did I violate the community guidelines???
The question was how a student could make money writing. My answer was deleted for violating the community guidelines. First time I've had a problem in answering thousands of questions. What's wrong with it?
Deleted Answer: Check out the suggestions at this site: http://teenmoneymakingideas.com/how-a-resourceful-... http://hubpages.com/hub/Make_Money_Writing_for_the... You can also write a book and self-publish it at lulu.com. They don't charge any money up front. Promote your book and people buy it directly from lulu's website. You get a percentage of the sales. My aunt has done two books this way. Maybe you could write a guide for your school or humor or fun-things-to-do in your area.
10 AnswersYahoo Answers1 decade agoMini-gifts for brother in nursing home??
My sister is trying to make each day special in December for our 60 year old brother in a nursing home. She can't spend much, so we need ideas of under a dollar if possible per item. We're trying to stay away from candy as he's put on too much weight as he can't exercise (paralyzed in one leg and arm). Please help us with some ideas to entertain or amuse him.
11 AnswersFamily1 decade agoWhat can I do or my family do to honor my sister on the first anniversary of her death?
She died suddenly last December 8th. I'm halfway across the country, but worry about how her daughters (in their early 20s) and my parents (early 80s) will cope with this day. Any suggestions?
5 AnswersFamily1 decade agoTips needed for prepping my summer cottage for a New England winter.?
Please be detailed about what I should do to get my summer place (a park model with a Durabuilt sunroom) ready for a NH winter. Someone is scheduled to drain the pipes and put supports in the sunroom to keep the roof from collapsing under heavy snow.
What about food, can I keep canned and dry foods in a cupboard? What about electronics during the freezing weather?
4 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoWild blueberries - are they OK to eat in the woods?
My husband said they always ate plenty when he was a kid playing in the woods of Maine. I picked some yesterday and ate them and saved some. Later I found a little green worm in the dish with the berries.

2 AnswersGarden & Landscape1 decade agoWhat percent of time do librarians give to different tasks?
I'm trying to find internet links to time studies on library work. Particularly I'm interested in public libraries and youth services or children's librarians. For example: how much time is given for programming, for reference, for book processing, for overseeing staff, for reader's advisory, etc.
2 AnswersOther - Education1 decade agoHow to score higher on Bookworm?
I know the usual tips (get more five letter words) and try to zap the burning tiles before they get halfway down. Is there anything else that can help my score? I've memorized most of the Qu combinations and try to use up the "H" and other difficult letters before they cause problems. Sometimes I end up with a screen containing mostly vowels. That's tough to deal with.

Are there specialist that one can hire to assess the living/training needs for adults with mental retardation? We want to facilitate independent living, but the family doesn't know how to proceed.
5 AnswersSpecial Education1 decade agoHow can we get bees out of a birdhouse without hurting them?
They are really large bees, maybe carpenter bees. It's close to our garden and handy to have them pollinating the flowers, but worrying to have them buzzing around our heads so much. I'd prefer they move further into the woods to a hollow tree or some place like that.

Books & Authors1 decade agoMSN won't let me set Yahoo as my home page???
I've gone to the tools, clicked on Internet Options and set Yahoo as my home page. I've clicked on the little house symbol, removed MSN as the home page and chosen Yahoo.
Then when I click on either one, it still shows MSN even though I've told it to remove it.
What else can I do to get Yahoo reinstated as my home page and get rid of MSN???
2 AnswersInternet1 decade agoAny electronic game to play with just one hand?
If someone is paralyzed and can only use one hand, is there a small electronic game that would entertain them. This is for a 60 year old man in a nursing home. His hobbies and work in the past were building hot rods and doing carpentry. He doesn't have access to a computer.
