this doesn't really answer your question, sorry, I just kind of went off a bit.

usually every time i drive through glendale i see at least one cop car. i think they've really been cracking down lately (i associate police cars with feeling slightly safe). although they aren't the normal looking police cars but more like "undercover" /disguised ones. they trick you because from far away you can't tell. ... so just a heads up i guess. anyway, i don't really know what they're crime stats are but it's not uncommon to see few a helicopter hovering over the city after someone. maybe every couple of months (???) If I were you I'd ask a realtor about north east glendale. kind of by eagle rock because i've notice eagle rock is really starting to improve over the last few years. also, maybe look into the area that borders with la canada.

glendale, has some excellent neighborhood, you just have to hunt them down. i don't avoid any part of glendale because of safety, but rather because of traffic...terrible traffic over by downtown glendale. glendale doesn't have a good reputation for driving, every time i go i almost end up in an accident. really watch the pedestrians/ if you're a pedestrian then watch the cars... if you have kids keep them away from playing in the street

-in response to Jeff, it doesn't get hot there in the summer? it depends what you compare it too by wow this summer it was sooo hot! -no humidity though!

Glendale is actually a pretty safe area considering it is a suburb of LA. There are some very upscale neighborhoods there as well as some poorer ones. There is some gang activity..but that has become common, pretty much anywhere across the US. I lived there for 20 years and was never the victim of a crime, and never avoided areas due to safety or crime. I would say overall it is safe. Some of the areas to avoid to live would be the neighborhoods south of Colorado Blvd.

Some of the areas in the south end of Glendale, towards San Fernando and Los Feliz, are a bit dodgy. But yes, overall it's relatively safe. Most of it is fairly in-the-middle. There's no guarantee somebody won't break into your car for your radio some time, but on the other hand, you can walk down the street at night without fearing for your life.

Glendale is a nice spot. My best friend grew up there. Like most places, the closer you get to the mountains, the nicer the area is (because of all the rich folks living up on the hills). As it spralls into the valley, the more sketchy it gets.

Glendale is relatively safe in comparison to the LA metro area.

As far as SoCal is concerned, Glendale is a good area. google Glendale demographics to check out the crime rates... Keep in mind Pacific Palisades is a very nice area, but that didn't stop OJ from killing his wife there. Crime can occur anywhere. It does get hot there in the summer

Overall, Glendale is pretty safe. I wouldn't say that there is really any part that is "unsafe".

    Relatively safe

You seem new to the area. Please note it is 'Armenia town', many times you will walk in the street and have the impression you are in Armenia (a country located between Turkey and Azerbaijan)
