Why are wii's still sold out after an entire year? Isnt supply supposed to meet demand?

Or did I not read my marketing book right when it came to the part about supply and demand?

Update:

yea...but an entire year of being out of stock is a bit above bullshit

i read about this marketing trick somewhere....stores pretend to be out of stock, and convince people that theres only one left, so they need to buy it NOW, but when in reality they arent really sold out

There are only a limited number of them available to keep the prices from falling. When demand for them declines there will be more of them in stock. This is a way for the company to reduce its inventory and prevent flooding the market.
