Drug tests for welfare checks?
My friend and I were talking(complaining) about all of the people out there that dont need welfare support, but milk the system anyways(like my neighbor) and we started to wonder. Is there any reason that we can't think of why there should not be a mandatory drug test before recieving government support?
...and, if there is no good reason, than why dont we change it?

Well, I imagine the expense would be a big factor in NOT doing it. Hundreds of thousands of people recieve government assistance every month. The logistics of trying to do drug tests on all of them are staggering. Plus, I imagine that people who milk the system will also be the people who come up with ways to cheat the tests. I understand your frustration, though. It boggles my mind that anyone would WANT to cheat the welfare system. That much work would make you REAL money in the workforce, so why not just get a job and get it over with?

It would cost a lot, and it would either come out of their welfare or out of the taxpayer's wallets. Some would become ineligible for welfare for failing drug tests, and then the liberals would complain that conservatives don't care about slackers that want to smoke weed with government money.

A good reason is money. That would cost the gov't a lot of money. It would also be a huge undertaking to implement that kind of strategy. It's too much work and the gov't is lazy. I also think if you have a kid while on welfare, that kid should be taken by social services.
