Does St. Michael the Archangel still use a sword?

He's always depicted beating on the devil with a sword and sometimes a spear. Do you think it's time to update his kit for the 21st century? I think people today would be able to better relate if he was dressed in camouflage and armed with something like a G3A3 or an M4 carbine. Guido Reni’s painting of St. Michael where he's about to chop the devils head with his sword could be updated with St. Michael holding a pistol to the devils head. What do you think?

Heh. The devil's immune to piercing and bludgeoning damage. He has DR ∞/slashing. Thus Michael needs a sword.

Actually, these days Mike uses a 2 1\2 HP Black and Decker chain saw. But the artists still depict it as a sword, which it kinda resembles.

Not state of the art, but more intimate than the cannon Milton had God running Satan out of Heaven with.

That is your own opinion. And I respect you for that.Your imagination is wild for a small child. However I agree that the devil should be fallen by St Michael no matter what he wears.

No one should pray to anyone other than God. When Jesus taught his disciples to pray, he taught them to pray, "Our Father who is in heaven", not "Dear Michael please help me." So no one, man or woman, should pray to Michael. In the book of Revelation, John describes how he fell at the feet of the angel who showed him the end times and how he began to worship the angel. The angel replied, "“You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you." Wishing you well.

Indeed, personified beliefs often carry weaponry of the time. Why change that now?

I think you have a very good imagination but be careful not to mock.

  • I think the weapon itself is immaterial.
