In the movie King Kong, why do the natives have a giant gate facing the jungle?

If it was built to keep Kong and the dinos out, why have a giant gate the size of Kong? Can anyone explain that to me?

Update:

Fred M, yeah but you only need a small door to take out your sacrifices...

i thought that when i watched it, if they are going to feed him people for scarifice then just toss them over, there is no need for a giant gate. Maybe the other big king kongs built it before they died, like how people built castles, and would the wall really have stopped king kong, he climbed up the empire state building, i am sure he could have climbed that

That's a good question----I guess so that if Kong ever did come in uninvited, he could do so without breaking down the walls....

Another point---Why could Kong climb to the top of the Empire State Building, but not the walls of the natives compound...?

yes it was to keep all the big things out, but they had to open it once in a while

you see they always sacrificed someone to king kong so he would not try to destroy their village, so they gave a woman up once in a while - like the Fay Wray character in the original movie
