Anyone else become a Fanzilla before your team plays a big game?
With all of the talk and hype surrounding my Steelers playin the Pats this weekend, I've noticed something interesting about myself. I am normally a level headed, reasonable, football fan. I can take criticizm for my team when it's due and have a realistic expectation for the outcome of a game.
However, when a game of this magnitude is approaching I find myself screamig at the tv when anyone doubts the ability of my team. I am irritable, irrational and completly convinced that my Steeler dedicated brain-waves will cause my team to win. I fully expect Polamlu to ride in on a unicorn carrying a spear and wearing armor to single handedly defeat Brady. Does anyone else go absolutely "Teen Wolf during full moon" crazy when a big game is on the way, or should I commit myself?
Lady Issues, Donnie? And what "lady issues" might you be referring to exactly....hmm??
During Superbowl XL I actually tackled my someone and rolled up the terrible towel and smacked them in the face with it. I'd call that...excessive.
The only time I abuse any men is when they rightfully deserve it.

It's perfectly normal for anyone to do that. I actually give you props on being such a hardcore fan. Me, myself, am one of the biggest bears fans ever. Bears fans are the greatest. (just my opinion.)
I was at the giants game last week drinkin cold beer in 10 degree weather while it was freezing rain. Screamin, yelling, going nuts. You should of seen our section when Hester dropped the ball or when Urlacher got that interception.
So go on. Be a superfan. (SNL Reference) Go nuts. Football is the greatest game ever. We only get 16 games in a season unlike other sports. We're allowed to go crazy when a game is on.
And in your case, it's the Pats and the Steelers... That is a Huge game... I hope that someone can knock the pats off their pedestal. Good luck and enjoy the game.

Tampa Bay always seems to be a thorn in our side. Hopefully Yanks can take some revenge on them tonight at the Trop. Edit> OK, Kim, agreed. The Angels are our biggest nightmare, and I despise Mike "The Whiner" Scioscia more than any other manager. I guess I thought of the Rays first because it always seems like we're losing games to them that we SHOULDN'T be losing. They can go 62-100 and still split the season series with us (I don't have specific stats to back that up, it just feels that way). Angels on the other hand at least are a good team, so losing to them makes a little more sense. I guess. Anyway, the sight of K-Rod doing his fist-pump is one of the most horrible images I can imagine, and we've seen it way too often, so yes, I blew it. The Angels are the correct answer for Yankee fans.

I definitely agree, I am the same way and I don't think its "lady issue"...
It's the worst when I'm at work and I read that interview with Smith. I was standing up yelling at my computer, shaking my mouse at the monitor. Keep in mind this was all while I was at work, also keep in mind I work for a small business in a small very very quite (almost no noise ever) office.
Then last night I'm watching sport center or whatever before the game and they start talking about the game and the Smith interview and I jump up and start yelling at the TV, all while my boyfriend and his friends stare at me in aw. I am a very quiet person normally, never mean to anyone (well for the most part) but something about football brings out the "crazy" in me.

While my passion is for a college team (go Gators!) rather then a pro team like yourself I do know where you're comming from. Before a big game I seem to become a bit irrational, and every criticism...justified or not...is taken as a personal insult. It's a normal reaction when you care that much about something.

Since the schedule came out I have been waiting for this week! It makes it all the more sweeter because the Pats are undefeated! Fear not 72 Dolphins here come the Steelers to the rescue. We will win this game and I don't care what all those loving cheaters say I guarantee a win for the Black & Gold! Come back here on monday so I can rub it in your face!

i've gotten into so many fights with Ohio State fans. More than i can remember. But they started it. I got kicked out of the 98 game.
And when Carolina played the Patriots in the Super Bowl I was there to see them lose by a field goal(and a streaker and janet jackson's boob) and I went crazy after we lost

You needn't commit yourself. I know exactly how you feel. In fact, I feel the same way about this game. Of course, I also felt the same way when the Pats played the Ravens, the Eagles and the Colts. Go Steelers!

I usually get insanely superstitious
if my guys just got a first down/big play, that remote has to be in the same exact spot
if nobody was talking when it happened, they better not talk during the next play....
that kind of thing
but I'm pretty level headed when it comes to bias and screaming at the TV

Of course everybody gets hyped up....If you don't, then it's just a hobby you do on Sunday....If your a fan, you can't help it...Though actually smacking somebody...hmmmm..Maybe some form of anger management... :)
You know I am a Patriots fan....Try getting a target painted on your teams back and everyone hating you....I'll be ready for the padded room any day now....
Man...Donnie..I wounder who the first guy to say that was going to be....You have much larger balls than me.....lol

I agree Ashley, you have lost all rational thought as it applies to this game. You normally make reasonable, thoughtful posts. But this week you are off the charts crazy.
I think Pitt can certainly win this game, but I just don't think they will. Rooting for your team isn't crazy, but your Polamalu/Unicorn post could get you locked up.
Heath Miller might want to consider a restraining order.
