Will there be a shortage of 80 GB Playstation 3's (PS3) come christmas time?

From what I'm told and know thusfar.. the Wii's have been harder to find and selling pretty well..

is the same going to happen with PS3?

I have invested in them.. but I haven't seen a crazy market for them yet. Don't want to break even.. want to make 100% profit on all.

Update:

i dont mean 'invested' as in invested w/ stocks.. as in the actual consoles sitting next to me., lol.

No. Unlike Nintendo, Sony CAN keep up with demand except for last year since it got delayed and it was the last moment anyways to get a PS3. If Nintendo stops making controllers and use those factories to make the consoles instead, we'd see more Wii's.

Then again, the Wii (I own one as well as a PS3) is a console that you won't really play all that much. But people keep buying them up so they can Ebay it or whatever to make their own profit so it looks like the demand is high. Wonder why you see thousands of listings on Ebay? That's why. And almost half of them have multiple consoles. It's stupid. Add to the fact that stores basically only want to sell them in bundles which drives up the price. They see the demand and no they're not supposed to go above the $250 retail price that Nintendo set (all game consoles do that) so they add in a lot of junk to make their profit. They don't make money off the consoles, just like computers. It's everything else that makes profit. (My experience at Circuit City taught me this.) So, you can buy everything seperately along with your Wii and save money. But you end up paying about $100 more because of the bundle.

But the PS3's 80 gig I've seen around. There's a limited supply, sure but it's replaced easily. So don't be fooled by Ebay, etc that's selling them for enormous amounts. In fact, if you wanted (not that you'd have any reason to trust me) you could send me the money and I could get you one.

The whole thing is a big monopoly. Sony has always been good at keeping up with demand, even with PS2's. Every company keeps stock low so the demand looks high when it's released around Christmas time. But crying out loud! Why hasn't Nintendo gotten their act together yet? PS3's are getting cheaper because the parts are getting cheaper. At first they were losing money at it. Now they can make a profit and still lower the price. In a year, I'll bet you'll see the 80 gig for $250. But it was new technology. And everyone complained about the price. But XBOX 360, you have to buy the add-on HD-DVD player which costs about the same.

Nintendo has really monopolized on it. If you've noticed, the controller and the nunchuck come seperately. To have one complete controller, you have to spend $70 at least. $40 for the controller and $30 for the nunchuck. Less not forget everything else you need.

But everyone is so focused on the Wii. Media hype and whatnot is what's driving it and the fact that people buy them up to sell on Ebay keeps up the demand too. Even if it was Sony that was in the lead at the moment in console sales (PS3, not PS2 vs Wii), they can still keep up with demand. Notice they got a surge of PS3's out a few months after Christmas.

Ever notice that people complain about spending so much on the PS3 and yet the Wii's are going for over $400 on Ebay, etc? And you can just get a PS3 in the store for that much now? People are weird.

I'd say keep you money invested because overall, Sony is probably going to win. (Not because I'm a PlayStation fan but because of the long-term of it all.) Microsoft uses the same old tired Halo as it's support and a lot of games they have come out on the PC anyways (so why buy a 360 again?). Nintendo keeps screwing up with shortages and whatnot and a lot of people are getting to the point or are going to get to the point and give up on the idea of ever getting one. It's one of those "lost causes". Sony has yet to release it's huge releases that everyone's dying for that's exclusive to them. They're making the console better all the time with the updates and something called Home that'll be out hopefully soon. Oh yeah, add onto the fact of Xbox 360's famous "red ring of death" which really killed Microsoft. But it's just like them... put out something without fully testing it because they wanted to be the first ones out.

Yes, it's a rant but again, I'd keep my money vested in them still. The long run? They're going to win this round.

    Hi,

Last 2 days ago when I went to Wal-Mart, I saw PS3 with 80GB were still in stock & there were 40 each PS3. The Wii were sold out of course. I also did saw only 8 Xbox 360 Elite were in stock only. No matter what, there were always be PS3 with 80GB around. Why? Because the price tag & no good games.

Next month I was thinking buying PS3 with 80GB.
