Will Isreal ever fight back against the Islamic terrorists who bombard southern Israel with rockets?

The Olmert administration tells additional southern Israeli towns to get set for Gaza bombardment. Military operation again deferred.

Hamas has extended the range of its missiles from Gaza to as far afield as the towns of Ashkelon, Netivot and Ofakim and blocs of smaller locations such as Magen, Miftahim, Kerem Shalom, Habsor, Gevulot, Tzeelim and Urim. This brings another 175,000 inhabitants who have so far escaped Palestinian missiles within Palestinian sights.

On Dec. 6, deputy defense minister Matan Vilnai made the rounds of this region and warned local authorities to prepare their towns and villages for bombardment. He had no answers on any military response or how their citizens were to be protected from this new peril. DEBKAfile’s sources reveal that prime minister Ehud Olmert, defense minister Ehud Barak and chief of staff Lt. Gen. Gaby Ashkenazi have again decided to defer a major military operation for wiping out the Hamas war machine

Update:

in Gaza. Its long postponement has left the Islamist terrorists free to greatly enhance their capabilities.

The range of their new missile acquisitions has been extend up to 25 km. Even fired from Gaza City, they can still reach a broad swathe of southern Israeli civilian locations, and not just those close to the border. Liquidating this new capability would necessitate Israel’s conquest of Gaza’s largest town.

Defense officials disclosed on Dec. 7, that Hamas now has long-term storage facilities for up to 100 Qassam missiles, which enables them to fire multiple bursts at Israeli targets. Officers in the IDF southern command report they repeatedly warned the government that this multiple-fire capability, comparable to that used in the Hizballah’s blitz of northern Israel last year, was under development. They are unable to explain why no orders came down to root it out.

Update 2:

Please, let us leave the anti-American anti-Jewish Noam Chomsky out of this discussion.

“During the past 24 hours, IDF forces, with the assistance of the Air Force and in coordination with the ISA, have been operating against terrorist infrastructure in the southern and northern Gaza Strip,” a statement from the IDF Spokesman stated. “The forces operated in order to distance the terrorist organizations -- particularly Hamas -- from the security fence and in order to prevent Kassam rocket and mortar shell fire into Israel. During the activity, the IDF identified hitting approximately 10 gunmen.”

In southern Gaza, pitched battles took place between IDF forces and Hamas armed and trained guerilla cells. The terrorists used anti-tank rockets and succeeded in setting one IDF tank ablaze.

The IDF has cut Gaza in half, according to PA reports, with tanks blocking the main road leading from Khan Younis to Rafiach.

The road is called Tancher Road by the IDF and Salah-a-Din Road by Gaza’s Arabs.

IDF will never win militarily in the Gaza strip... all israel can do with the IDF is besiege that little plot of land. The answer is in supporting Fatah, and a popular uprising in Gaza against the HAMAS. You can kill HAMAS and all its leaders, but no governing body in Palestine will ever be legitimate enough, unless that body was forged from the blood of Palestinians, by and for the Palestinians.

Oh... and the missiles couldn't hit the moon with HAMAS behind the launch button... Israelis need not worry.

According to the Defense Minister, the time is drawing near when Israel will finally deal with those Muslim terrorists in Gaza.

Shalom. Maneeshma? Ever since 1999 I have been saying that there are only 2 choices to end the cycle of violence. Either give the Palestinians everything they want, or give them a big ma-ka (slap). We have done neither as of this writing. There will be a decision very soon either way. And then it will be either peace or war. I hope for peace, but are we really going to give them East Jerusalem? Then we'll have to worry about a revolution. I feel sorry for Israel that we cannot do what we want unilaterally and that we have to adhere to the goals of the nations that give us aid. But we made our bed by taking from them and now we have to live with their influence. Lithroat.

I hope they do, and whenever Israel decides to counter-attack, Israel will be the evil one, NOT those who keep picking on them, as usual.

May be if they try sitting down to talk, rather than killing tit for tat, they will get some where. In fact it is the only way.

All Israel does is fight. they fight against a people who have nothing. A people who have had everything taken away from them. its very disheartening...
