Can I keep an Olive snail in a goldfish tank?

I have a 55 gallon goldfish tank that gets a lot of algae in it. I tried a loach who did just fine but it also liked to eat the slime on the goldfish so I had to get rid of it. I bought a Plecostamus but it only lived about a month. Probably the colder water wasn't ideal for it.

Someone suggested Olive snails as a good way to control algae but can they live in a colder tank? The water temperature in the winter is in the 70 to 72 degree range.

Update:

Olive snails can live in freshwater, they just don't reproduce. I already checked that out I just can't find anywhere that gives any temperature ranges for them.

I've tried various algae eating fish and so far they either eat the goldfish or they die from the water being too cold.

Olive snails live in brackish to salt water. They'd probably survive in a freshwater tank but they won't reproduce. If you want to cut the algae quickly you could get a handful of pond snails. They don't need a heater and reproduce very quickly. The goldfish will eat a few of them but that's not necessarily a bad thing. If anything it would help keep their numbers in check. You can usually get pond snails at the fish store for free - they come in on the plant shipments. Just know that if you ever change your mind about the snails getting rid of them is quite a task.

Try getting a algae eater fish. There are different kinds than just the one you got. There are also little ones too.
