For those old enough to remember, What are your memories of the night John Lennon died?

I was in Kean College, living at home in NJ. I was listening to Monday Night Football on the radio because my TV did not have "sleep timer" or a remote control. It was New England vs Miami, when the broadcaster (not Howard Cosell) gave the bulletin John Lennon had been shot, I tuned into my favorite station, WNEW-FM 102.7 I heard Vince Scelsa crying, I knew it was bad news. I spent the rest of the night staring at my Beatles posters and listening to the tributes on the radio, the callers sharing their feelings and all the great Beatle music, I don't think I got any sleep that night. ={

I don't remember the night exactly...

I just remembering being in shock.

    The radio stations were playing

Lennon's new album night and day,

which only came out a few weeks

before his death. The next day, Me

and a few friends went to gather at

    The Art Museums steps (Philadelphia)

with 100's and 100's of other people...

it was a freezing, windy cold day. There

was Lennon's, "Give Peace a Chance"

blaring from everywhere. We all just

stood around and were shocked that

he was gone. A week later, I saw

Springsteen in concert and he talked

about Lennon and what a sad world

this has become with so much hatred

    and violence.

    That was 27 years ago.....think

about how much more violent and

    hateful this world is NOW!

    Great question...I starred ya!

I was two months old when John Lennon was senselessly killed. I became a fan of his music the first time I heard "Watching The Wheels". To say Lennon's death was sad was the understatement. He didn't deserve to die the way he did. He was coming off a comeback album, a rebirth of a good marriage, and the joy of a five year old son. AT 40 years old, Lennon was entering the next phase of his life. Yes, he made mistakes, but was man enough to realize them and dedicate his life towards making a difference in the world...until that cold, cruel moment of tragedy on December 8th, 1980. May Mark David Chapman rot in hell for what he did!

I'm only 19, obviously not old enough to remember, but I remember my mom & my aunts telling me about how they had this big "girls night" and they were listening to the radio or something, singing, and they heard it. One of my aunts cried. I think it's so strange (in a good way i guess) how the death of someone you don't even know can effect a person. My family, LOVES the beatles. I have all of their cds. If you don't love them, you're not part of the family, haha :)

I was working at a Nuclear power Plant in Surry ,Virginia when I heard that John Lennon had been shot and killed.

I couldn't believe it. The man had such talent. What a shame.

I was 7 years old and heard it on the little pink single speaker radio I never turned off. I remember asking my mom why was he so important, and as soon as the old beatle songs started playing I knew exactly who he was.

How sad, I was only 1 when he died so I'm not old enough to remember but I can imagine the feeling being somewhat of "I can't believe this has really, truly, just happened." Very sad.

I was at Disneyland at the employees' Christmas party. I think my parents told me while I was standing in front of Sleeping Beauty's castle. Weird, huh?

I'm 16 and I wasn't around then, but today I mourn the world's loss of such a wonderful and talented man.

It seems like it was on a Saturday morning when I was in college when I heard it on the radio.
