Question points not returned for "I agree!" and "Me too!" answers?
A question that has no answers gets those points returned. However, I posted a question with one answer: "OMG tell me if you find one,,," Obviously, not an answer. ("Does attachment A fit pasta machine B?). Why should I have to "pay" for it?
I've only answered questions that I felt I knew the answer to, but it was never clear that answering a question with a "I agree" answer could actually hurt the asker of the question (no way to recoup their points). Is there any way to fix this? Should I simply create a separate account with a different ISP (I have dial up account to go back up my satellite internet) and only ask questions using that account? That feels like cheating, but if there's no way fix a "Yeah, me too!" answer, I'm clueless. With this question, I've asked 5 total, including the one with a bogus answer and this one. I love this site, but it's not adding up with the work I put into answering questions against the 10 points with no answer this question has produced.
Alex, THANK YOU - on two counts. One, I thought once someone had answered, that was it - that it was an answered question and two, I didn't realize how I might also affect people with my votes - I'll be more careful in the future to ensure I actually *am* voting for the best answer. I thought voted questions were just things nobody bothered to choose a "best" on! And no - lol - I won't use you as a test case.

If you don't feel they answered your question then when you go to vote for best answer, pick "No Best Answer."
Your 5 points will be returned to you.
I hope that helps, and that you don't click on "No Best Answer" on my question just to test it out. ;)

You have four days to choose a best answer. If, on the third day, you have not received an answer that deserves merit, you should consider withdrawing your question and perhaps resubmitting at a later date. I don't know if you get the 5 points back, but at least you won't lose an additional 5 points.

I wouldn't worry about not getting a few points back. It shouldn't be that important. Just continue on and don't worry about it. I would never give and "I agree" kind of answer. That's not any help to someone who's asked a question and who needs answers. But over time you will lose other points, but you will likely gain more back in no time.
