It's unorthodox, usually coconut cake has a vanilla-type frosting, but if you prefer chocolate there's no LAW that says the frosting has to be white! Sometimes rules are meant to be broken, especially in the culinary field...who knows! You may start a new fad and Martha Stewart will have you on her show...it's a good thing!

Hi Clueless Clause. I normally don't like chocolate frosting, but I LOVE coconut cake. And when I first tried this kind of cake, it was AMAZING. Great mix.
But, your taste may be different, so this answer may not help that much.
Happy Holidays and hopefully by the holidays you won't be clueless!

Well I know that chocolate cake with coconut frosting on top (german chocolate cake) is really good, so I would think that the reverse would also be pretty delicious.

I am not a coconut fan but chocolate frosting to me goes with almost any type of cake.
