Does anyone know WHY biologically, a dogs......?
temperature will drop before giving birth? What is the actual reason this happens? I've asked 3 different vets,,,and the answer is always 'hormones'. But I can't find out the actual WHY. What is the purpose,,,and is it a combination of hormones, dropping of hormone levels, rising of levels or what? Looking for the technical reason here. Thanks ahead!

I search the internet for an asker for you - but didn't find anything helpful except that the temperature drop happens in all animals before birth.
Also: there was mention that the baby might suddenly produce heat - this could cause the parent to vent a lot of heat in one go = fast temperature drop (this is all speculation on my part)
- again speculation - aren't you suppose to have a change in heat at the time of the month - it may have some thing to do with oestrogen and progesterone levels.
or it may be related to muscle movement - we heat up more when moving - could be a relaxation before the birth - give your muscles time to rest before the birth.
