In what movie do the characters not have enough $ for a Christmas tree, so they paint one on the wall?

They're talking about a past Christmas -- it doesn't actually happen in the action.

    I know the movie "Where the Heart Is" the character played by Natalie Portman mentions a past Christmas where the old lady she was staying with painted a green tree on the wall. I'm not sure if that is the movie you are looking for though.
