colored lights if you like variety, white lights if you like your house lamps (only smaller, boring) and street lights.

Colored lights. The only time I would use white would be inside otherwise it is way to boring. I am tired odfseeing every house with those white fake ice lights. So boring.

My tree has fiber optics and a color wheel, so that the colors are constantly changed as the wheel rotates. No hassle with burn-out bulbs and trying to get all the strings piggy-backed onto an extension cord. But my true favorite bulbs are either those big, old-fashioned colored bulbs or else multi-colored bubble lights. We had both of them when I was growing up, so seeing them is a real nostalgia trip for me.

Depends what kind of look you're going for.
If you want a fun, happy, festive feel, color.
If you want a mall tree, coordinated, sophisticated, classy and elegant, white.
